The first album from artist Sophie Stiles, Chartreuse, is like the musical equivalent of sitting at coffee with an old friend while the rain falls outside. Her soothing voice forms honest lyrics from an earnest heart, whether it’s donning the perspective of Biblical figures as in “Calling of Jeremiah” and “Hagar’s Song,” to reveling in God’s faithfulness and steadfast strength and presence in her own life as in “Mountain” and “When My World Falls Away.”
The original music and lyrics stand out from typical fare, but it’s Sophie’s genuine heart that shines through the most. This album really is a tribute to who the Lord is and how he is with us always, but it is done in a very relatable and thought-provoking way woven in with beautiful music.
